Water Drainage Problems in Mississippi

Having drainage problems in your yard can be detrimental to a variety of things, such as your lawn, your landscaping, and even the foundation of your house.  If every time it rains you see puddles of water collecting in various locations and not disappearing for a good length of time, you definitely have drainage problems that need to be addressed.  This is most important if water is pooling around the sides of your home.

In order to address this issue, you must first make note of all spots in your yard and around your home where water settles and does not drain.  After the next rainfall, go outside and mark each spot with a stake.  If you do not have stakes available, consider using medium sized rocks that are marked either with a spot of spray paint, or with a marker, so that you are able to identify the correct rocks in the correct spots when you begin to address the problem.  Priority spots should be any which are against the sides of your house.

Once all problem areas are determined, begin by seeing if you can assess any damage to the foundation of your house by inspecting the inside wall of your basement.  If you see any small cracks that are leaking water, you will know that you are dealing with the beginning of a problem.  If you spot larger cracks, this is a sign that damage is well underway.  For very small spots, you may be able to stop them up with epoxy or caulk, but larger cracks should be seen by a specialist.  It is possible that the drainage problems in Mississippi that you are having outside are affecting the earth below the surface of your yard, which could be resulting in excess pressure being place on the foundation of the house.  Eventually, if not corrected, the concrete will begin to shift and give, forming larger cracks.  These larger cracks, if left untended, can eventually give way to destabilization of the foundation of your home, leaving you in a dangerous situation.

The smartest way to address a drainage problem is to contact a company in Mississippi  that deals in such issues and discuss what sort of drainage solutions they can offer you.  Often, all you may need is a simple drain system.  An opening will be laid down in the problem area where the water will then drain in to pipes that angle away from your house(or whichever location on your property that you are working on) and channel it to an appropriate spill out point.  Don’t wait to begin addressing these issues, especially if you’re concerned about cost.  The cost later down the road could be substantially higher, so going the preventative route can save you in the end.
