You need to get together with your loved one and decide which, maybe all, of these qualities is important to you. Read on below for some of the quality elements that you need to look for.

The first thing you need to do is observe the level of cleanliness in the community. Does it look and smell fresh and clean? Don’t just look on the surface however, make sure to look in closets, at baseboards, and in corners. Ask about the daily schedule for cleaning and what the arrangements are concerning laundry service. If laundry cost extra, then you will want to know how much, and how often it is done.

Make sure and visit the community during a planned activity. You don’t want to visit while the residents are in their own rooms. You want to observe the activities that are planned for the residents. Are the activities well attended and does the staff seem to enjoy the activities as well? These are things that you will want to know about before you make any decisions.

Make sure that you pay attention to how the staff treats the residents. Are they friendly? Are they patient with the residents of the community? The one thing should never tolerate is the staff treating the residents like children or being disrespectful and short with them. It is very important that you, and your parents, have complete confidence in the staff at the assisted living community you choose.

Choosing a facility for your parents doesn’t have to be hard, but you do need to take your time, do your research, and make sure that your parents will be happy there, when you aren’t around.
