Types Of Chicago Cosmetic Dentistry Options Available

When most people in Chicago think of cosmetic dentistry, they think of teeth whitening. While almost every dentist will do that procedure, there are many other treatments available that you may not know about. It is important to be informed because you may need one of these procedures one day and many insurance companies don’t pay for elective options.

Tooth Whitening

Your teeth are likely stained and darkened because of all the foods and drinks you consume. You’re likely to have stains even if you brush and floss regularly. For those who are self-conscious or work in an area where they would be judged by their teeth, tooth whitening procedures may be a good choice. While you can also do so by yourself, the whitening agent is stronger at the dentist and they know how to use it properly.

Dental Implants

As an alternative to dentures, dental implants will implant metal framework into the gum and bone and then allow a faux tooth to be placed into the framework, so that it looks like you have all of your real teeth. These options are typically more expensive than dentures and can take longer to set up and create. However, they can be more appealing than dentures, because they are easier to get used to and use.

Braces

Orthodontic work is typically not considered cosmetic, but there is new technology that allows you to have a completely invisible and clear brace on the top or bottom. They are easily removed, so you can take them out when eating and sleeping and can brush your teeth regularly. These are extremely popular, but are more expensive than traditional metal braces.

Bridges/Crowns/Veneers

These options can help repair cavity-filled teeth and are meant to look like natural teeth when finished. Because they can help boost your self-esteem and have the appeal of looking like normal teeth, they are considered an elective option.

Tooth Bonding

Many times, teeth are cracked, damaged or stained beyond repair. In these cases, tooth bonding may be a good choice for you, especially if the tooth in question is one of the front ones. In this process, the materials are placed and stuck directly onto the tooth. These materials can be molded to look exactly like all your other teeth, so you still have a nice smile.
