Questions to Consider When Renting a Washington College Apartment

If you’re thinking about renting an apartment as a college student, you should consider the location and how much money you can afford to spend. Make a list of questions to ask the apartment manager before visiting different complexes so that you don’t forget any details. Here are a few tips for getting started on your search for an apartment while you’re in college.

Rent

One of the first things you need to find out about is the rent. If you plan on sharing one of the apartments near WWU with another student, you should ask if each person will pay for a bedroom or if the monthly rent will be equally divided between each person in the apartment. Ask about the utilities as well because some complexes include them in the monthly rent.

Pets

If you have pets, you might not want to leave them at home with your parents or find someone else to care for them. Some apartments will allow you to have pets, but there could be weight and breed restrictions. These are details that you need to ask about as well as any pet deposits that you might need to pay when moving in and with your rent each month.

Checking Details

When you walk through apartments near WWU, pay attention to the electrical outlets and the plumbing. Look at the security features, such as the locks on the windows and the deadbolt on the front door. If you want to make the apartment feel a bit more like home, then ask if you can add a few updates as long as you put the apartment back in the condition it was before you moved into the unit.
