Martial arts have been used for many centuries in Asia for both self-defense and overall health; today Karate in Clearwater FL is being used for strength training and cardio conditioning as well as endurance and self defense.

There are many different styles of martial arts; karate is one of the harder styles as it uses striking techniques for both offensive and defensive moves. Karate sees its roots on the islands of Ryukyu in Japan; it first appeared in the US in the 1960s and soon became a very common sporting activity with many training and teaching facilities throughout the country.

There are few better exercise programs available; fight-conditioning forces the individual to become comfortable with managing his or her own body weight. This program forces the individual into high-reps, low resistance movements. It is this type of program that results in lean muscle mass and a high degree of flexibility.

When young people in particular begin to experience karate in Clearwater FL they realize that martial arts in whatever form is far more than just exercise, it becomes a way of life, the foundation for setting personal goals and for building self confidence. It takes strength, patience, focus and discipline to excel in martial arts; these are all attributes which once learned, will last a lifetime.

A student of karate will typically exercise three or four days a week, each session lasting about two hours maximum. During these training sessions the student will focus on improving strength, flexibility and mental prowess. During these training sessions a student can expect to perform hundreds of movements, including punches and kicks as well as core exercises.

To become proficient in karate, the student must overload both mind and body, working to the point of exhaustion. Without this, the body will never adapt to the stress nor will it grow both mentally and physically. A master in karate can perform feats impossible to others.

Once enrolled in a karate class the student will be working under the tutelage of a master with a minimum of ten years training. The student will witness feats of strength from the master that will amaze him or her; breaking boards with bare hands and catching arrows in flight are skills that only come with time, devotion, dedication and plenty of hard work.
