For those with roaches in their homes, Brandon Pest Control may be a necessity. If you find roaches in your home, this could cause many health problems and they are just gross. They can get into the tiniest of crevices and come out when you least expect them. Therefore, it is important to learn about the types of roaches and where they like to live, to hopefully prevent an infestation.

American Roach

The American roach, commonly called a cockroach are in many areas outside, such as with plants, sewers and other drain systems and in areas where there is a lot of moisture. Their reproduction is quite quick, as each female can produce 10 egg capsules with 15 eggs each. These usually hatch within 45 days, so even if you kill off the roaches you have, you may still have an infestation. It is, therefore, important to kill the egg capsules, as well as the roaches. Because they are found in many outdoor areas, you should try to control the area around your home, removing piles of debris and wood. You should also keep trash in sealed bags and containers to prevent roaches from entering. Proper gutters are important, as well, to keep moisture away from the house.

Brown-banded Roach

These roaches are more common in south states and are found mostly indoors. They require little moisture, so it can easily live in dry areas, such as closets, behind drawers and in kitchens. Because they are likely to be found indoors, you need to ensure the roaches can’t get into the home. If you do not want to attract them to your home, food should be kept in containers and properly stored.

Cuban Roach

These roaches are native to Latin America but have found their way to cities in Florida, such as Brandon. These roaches are usually outdoor species. One difference between these and other roaches is that they are attracted to light and they fly. These roaches are usually light green and have longer wings.

The best way to keep these roaches out of your home is to reduce the lighting in and around the home at night, which will help keep them away.

If you do find these or any other roaches, in your home, you will likely need an inspection to find all hidden eggs before treatment pest removal is possible. This is why it is important to control your home area properly so it doesn’t become infested.
