In most cases when a water hose leaks it is around the brass fittings that are at each end. Usually, the ends of your garden hose are what take the brunt of the abuse from being run over with your car or other accidents that can occur when it is left out. You will be able to buy replacement ends from just about any hardware store that carries a selection of brass fittings. With just a few tools and a little time, you will be able to replace the damaged ends on your water hose. Here are a few tips on replacing Brass Garden Hose Fittings.
The Cutting
The first thing that you need to do before you start to replace your hose fittings is to assess exactly where the problem is and how far back it extends on the hose. This will let you know how far back you need to the hose once you start to replace the hose. In order to cut the hose, you will need to get a sharp utility knife. You need to make the cut as straight as you can because this will help to ensure a good seal when you put on your new fittings.
The Band Clamp
After you cut the damaged part of the hose off, it will be time to put on the new fitting that you have. You should be able to slide the end of the hose over the female part of the fitting. After you have done this, you will need to slide the band clamp on the hose to the end and begin to tighten it. Be sure that the clamp is resting on the brass of the fitting and not the hose because this could cause a restriction in the flow of water.
Finishing Up
The last thing you need to do once you tighten down the clamp is to check for leaks and problems with the hose. In some cases, the clamp may not be tight enough, which will result in a slow leak out to the end of the fitting. You should be able to tighten it and if you have it as tight as it will go, then you need to get a smaller clamp. Make sure that there are not flow problems with the hose because this could be an indication that the clamp is around the hose instead of the fitting. For more information Click Here.
