How To Get Your Home Ready To Sell

If you have decided to sell your home, there are a few things that you can do to make the process quicker and more successful.  Selling a home can be exceptionally stressful with the constant uncertainty involved and the need to keep a home ready to show at any time.  The quicker your house can be sold, the quicker you can move on to your next home or adventure.  In addition, anything that can be done to boost the selling price of the home is also much appreciated.  Thankfully, with a little time and very little money, it may be possible to sell homes in Austin quicker and for more money.

One of the most important things that you can do to get your home ready to sell is to do a very thorough cleaning.  If there have been any areas in your home that have been neglected, clean them until they shine.  Wash all of the windows until they sparkle.  Look for dirty grout in the corners of tubs and showers.  Buyers will likely be opening doors when looking at your home so organize all of your closets and cabinets.  They may also want to look in appliances, so don’t forget to scrub out the refrigerator and oven.

The next step is to fix anything that needs to be repaired.  Even little problems like squeaky doors or jiggling doorknobs may make a potential buyer think that the home has not been well maintained.  If your doors or walls show a lot of dings or scuffs and scratches, a fresh coat of paint can make the home feel like new.  You also may want to consider painting if you have personalized your home with bright, bold colors.  Homes in Austin that have been recently painted in a fresh, neutral color are often more appealing to a broader range of buyers.

Homes in Austin that have been staged also often show better than homes that have not been worked with.  Consider renting a storage unit to store pieces of furniture and belonging that clutter your home.  Most rooms feel much bigger when extra furniture has been removed.  Make sure that you keep enough furniture in the rooms to give the room scale, though.  For instance, it is easier for a buyer to visual whether or not their bed will fit in the bedroom if there is already a bed in the room.  Additionally, remove all of the personal items in your home such as family pictures.  You want buyers to be able to imagine themselves living in the home and that can be difficult if the home feels too much like your own.
