Fun tips on Home Theater Design

Home theaters are a popular trend in many homes in the United States. If you have the space vacant a great way to utilize it would be to convert it into a home theater. Basements can be converted into great spacious movie rooms by making the basement properly water proof and sound resistant. Home theater design should not be too large as properly filing the room with sound would then become an issue. Perfectly square rooms are prone to producing odd sounds and an oblong/rectangular size is more preferable for getting good sound effect. The screen should be placed on the narrow side of the room and the wall behind the screen should have no openings, doors and windows. The movie room should have heavy drapes to keep the room dark during a show. Basements are ideal as they have no windows! Low ceilings and dark colors on the walls are perfect for absorbing light and sound. The floor should be carpeted, or if made of hardwood, should have a central rug to reduce the glare from hardwood flooring. Depending on the size and shape of your space you can install the desired home theater design and pick an appropriately sized screen. Wall units are popular for smaller spaces and to conceal much of the wiring etc but they impact sound effects. The wall units provide a number of advantages. They conceal much of the equipment and cables. They provide multiple ports for cable access; provide good storage for CDs, DVDs and cassettes, and also have ventilated cabinets to allow heat to dissipate without damaging the equipment or the furniture. Theater screens can also be suspended on clamps but they have to be properly installed to bear the weight of components and equipment.

Once you have decided on how to mount your entertainment system, speakers and other accessories, the next consideration is the seating. Chairs in movie rooms must provide comfort and absorb glare. Leather furniture does have the tendency to accentuate glare and reflective surfaces of chairs and other furniture do diminish the viewing experience. Avoid polished table tops, trays, storage units etc. Creaky chairs and other furniture that is noisy should also ideally be removed from a home theater. Swivel chairs are not advisable as they are distracting.

Lighting plays a major role in contributing to the ambience of the entertainment system. Lighting intensity should be subdued. Diffused lighting best suits an entertainment room. Depending on your budget and personal tastes there are many ways you can plan a home theater design. Nassau County residents can find good local audio video technicians who would help design and install your dream home theater system.
