Spanish Language Video Targets Hispanic Drivers

by | Sep 17, 2012 | legal

TxDOT (The Texas Department of Transportation) has created a Spanish-language video that includes testimonials from Hispanic drivers who have been convicted of DWI in Texas. The video is intended to educate newly immigrated and first-generation Spanish-speakers who may not be familiar with Texas laws regarding DWI. Anyone who is arrested for DWI, whether an English or a Spanish speaker, should always consult with a defense attorney in the Austin area as soon after the arrest as possible.

The video was created in an effort to ensure that all families in Austin and throughout Texas have adequate information regarding Texas’ drunk driving statutes. In 2011, DUI accidents that resulted in a fatality involved a Hispanic driver and alcohol 37% of the time. Authorities admit, however, that such statistics may be the result of immigrants coming from countries where DWI and DUI laws are very different or not enforced. Many immigrants have no real understanding that a defense attorney would even need to be contacted in such instances.

Regardless of one’s native language, country of origin, or ethnic background, however. Seeking the legal counsel of an experienced defense attorney is essential whenever facing a criminal charge in the Austin area. Whether the charge is DUI, family violence, shoplifting, assault, or some other criminal activity, the consequences of a criminal conviction can be severe and are not something to be taken lightly. Depending upon the circumstances of the case, a defense attorney can sometimes get the charges dropped altogether. If that is not plausible, it is sometimes possible for charges to be lessened or sentences reduced. Rest assured, however, that if you need a defense attorney, your attorney will work vigorously to ensure the best possible outcome to your case.

It can be easy to feel hopeless when facing a criminal charge, but even an alleged suspect in a crime has certain Constitutional and legal rights. Your defense attorney will protect those rights in and out of the courtroom. In addition, your attorney will work with you to build the best possible defense for your case so that the consequences of your arrest will be as minimal as can be expected.

Regardless of your background, being charged with a criminal offense can be a frightening and overwhelming experience. It is also one which throws you into a whirlwind of legal activity for which you have neither the education, experience, or background to successfully navigate on your own. Luckily, however, with the help of an accomplished defense attorney in the Austin area, your situation does not have to be one of despair, but can be one of hope. Contact an attorney today to get the help that you need.
