It probably makes no difference where you live; if you have an out of town visitor to “look after”; you will probably be asked – “what’s there to do here after work?” And, partly because “familiarity breeds contempt”, you may well reply – “nothing much mate”.
But; What If You Are In Ipswich?
If you do live there; you may well be of the opinion that Ipswich Nightlife isn’t really up to much. However, that may well be a serious case of misrepresentation; if your idea of Ipswich Nightlife is to meet a few mates in a bar; have a few cold ones and go home early (to be ready for work the next day); then it’s not Ipswich that is lacking in nightlife; it is you.
Let’s pretend for a while that you have a good job with a company in Ipswich which acts on an equipment support basis to the Royal Australian Air Force’s largest operational base at Amberley; some 8 km outside Ipswich. You are responsible for some specialised imported equipment and have big hopes of doing well from the RAAF’s A$ 64 million dollar re-development program. But; you have hit a problem clinching the deal and have had to call in an overseas expert from your principal; he flies in; you find him a nice hotel and, 3 hard days and nights later; the problem is solved and you have won the contract. It’s now 3pm and he does not fly home till tomorrow – this is when he asks you to show him the Ipswich Nightlife.
Something A Bit Special
You could, of course, travel the 40 km to Brisbane and sample the nightlife there before coming back 40 km; but that does not sound too practical; in any case, you don’t go there often enough yourself to really know the nightlife. Even if there is a good footie match on tonight; he probably won’t want the full local colour of boozing it up with your mates while watching a match he barely understands.
Then “Eureka” you have a brainwave; there is a very good hotel in Ipswich (unfortunately, you couldn’t get him a room there); but, it is close to where he is staying and it has a great bar for some pre-dinner cocktails; a fantastic steak restaurant with a fine wine cellar and, once wined and dined; the two of you can try your luck in the hotel’s gaming room. Sounds a good way to show him some Ipswich Nightlife and make sure he doesn’t miss his plane the next morning.
