by | Dec 8, 2014 | Business

Motivating and entertaining people don’t necessarily go together, but for keynote laughter speakers these two traits can certainly be combined. What does it mean to be motivated? Or to motivate another person or a group of people? Motivation is the reason people pretty much do anything at all. For example, if you are crossing the street and notice that a large semi-trailer truck is bearing down on you and appears to be out of control, you may be "motivated" to do whatever you can to get out of the way! Similarly, for those individuals for whom motivating people is their actual profession, training or education in psychology, marketing, sales, and public speaking is a must so that they can create in those they are addressing the willingness, desire, and incentive to be more effective at whatever job it is they do. This article will therefore briefly examine the top five qualities to look for in keynote laughter speakers.

Quality Number 1: Professional Certification

The motivational speaker you seek should absolutely be a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) who is designated as such by the National Speakers Association. Without this important professional credential the individual may not be dependable and you may end up losing money if you hire him or her. As a CSP you will know that the person has undergone the requisite training and education to be considered a reputable motivational speaker.

Quality Number 2: Experience

As with most professions, it is advisable to have a minimum of five years’ experience as a keynote speaker. While you can certainly find qualified motivational speakers with less than that amount of experience, you can be reasonably assured that someone who has been motivating people successfully for at least five years has a pretty good idea of what they are doing.

Quality Number 3: Appearance

It will probably come as no great surprise that the way a person presents himself or herself can be a very important element in whether to consider hiring them as a skilled motivational speaker. Particularly in this field is it essential to appear well-groomed and professional. A person’s appearance tells a lot about them, especially if they are planning to be seen by dozens, if not hundreds, of your employees or group members. Someone who isn’t concerned with his or her appearance can come off as unprofessional and can, unfortunately, actually turn out to be a distraction.
